Spillikin- A heart breaking example of love conquering all.

Alzheimer’s is a cruel disease, destroying everyone it touches. Many forms of media have brought this touchy subject to life, and have helped people to cope with its impact. Pipeline’s new play Spillikin- a Love Story is a ground breaking look at how a relationship attempts to survive through memories and technology.
Sally’s deceased husband leaves behind a robot full of his memories of their relationship to keep Sally ‘company’. However, as Sally’s condition worsens, both the robot and her reality’s become severely blurred.
The robot begins as an extraordinary sight that nobody could take their eyes off. However, as the story progressed, it became a part of the cast, never distracting from the amazing acting from the human characters. The set did this too- the projections and the constant changing of the bookshelves were obvious but again, never distracted the audience from the plot.
It’s no wonder Spillikin had such a huge success at Edinburgh Fringe. This deeply bitter sweet love story is guaranteed not to leave a dry eye in the house.
